A rant against scalpers

Kyoto Animation just sent out the preordered copies of Violet Evergarden Series Background Art Collection to fans this week. Two days later, there is already a scalper trying to make a profit from someone else's work.

The original selling price when I ordered the book was 6,600 yen, plus another 600 yen for shipping.

Someone is trying to sell this same book on Amazon Japan for 32,900 yen (shipping included). Which means the person is actually going to earn a profit of around 25,000 yen (depending on how he or she ships this to the buyer). That's close to 4 times what the book was actually selling for. 😡

If you are a fan of Kyoto Animation's works, there is actually no need to buy from scalpers. While the book may be out of stock right now, KyoaniShop regularly republishes past products because they know that there are fans who want an extra copy, or new fans who recently came to know about their older works. If we don't buy from scalpers, there won't be value for them to scalp anymore. Scalping is... well, just remember, the scalper mentioned above is going to earn 25,000 yen from someone else's work. All that person did was fill in an order form six months before you.
